Mr Alagappan Sivaraman is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Spire Hartswood hospital in Brentwood, Essex, offering private spinal surgery and treatment for back and neck pain in our clean and comfortable private hospital.
Alagappan Sivaraman completed his higher surgical training in trauma and orthopaedics at Bart's and The Royal London Hospitals, where he was appointed as consultant orthopaedic and spinal surgeon in 2006. During his training Mr Sivaraman worked as a visiting spinal fellow in Germany, the United States and India. He completed his spinal training at Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital and at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, Middlesex. He is the author of a spinal chapter in a medical text book, and has published and presented papers on spinal surgery at international conferences.
Mr Sivaraman specialises in spinal surgery for deformity, inflammatory spinal pathologies (rheumatoid spine), degenerative conditions of the neck and lower back, spinal tumours and infections eg spinal tuberculosis. He was involved in setting up the Spinal Tuberculosis Unit at The Royal London Hospital, one of very few units in the UK.
Minimally invasive (keyhole) spinal surgery is a fast-developing field with many benefits for patients. Examples are the X-Stop implant for lower back pain and balloon kyphoplasty to help patients with spinal fractures due to osteoporosis and spinal tumours. Mr Sivaraman carries out both these procedures at Spire Hartswood Hospital.
Other newer techniques that Mr Sivaraman offers include inter-spinous decompression for degenerative conditions of the lumbar spine with spinal stenosis, and cervical disc arthroplasty (neck disk replacement) for degenerative spine disorders.
