ROYAL COCCYX

I will start by telling you a little bit about myself. I am a lady of 44 years old,  married to Jason and we have 3 children. I live in Wales where I was born .

In 1996 I was a nurse here in Wales when to my surprise I was kicked in the back! I fell to the floor in pain - pain like I had never felt before. Within a hour I had a large swelling on my right bottom cheek, so off to the hospital I went where I had an MRI and CAT  Scan done and blood tests. I was in great pain. I was in there over-night and a fine needle aspersion was done on me which left my leg black with a bruise and when I left hospital they told me I would be okay after a few pain killers and home I went to look after 3 children and back to work ...or so I thought?

A few weeks went by and I was unable to get back to work. With pain, I returned to the hospital and said this pain has not gone,  if anything it was getting worse so they gave me yet stronger pain killers. Home, I went with a pat on the head …… you will be fine.

I did what the Dr ordered. One year went by and I  returned to work still living on pain killers, but I thought it must be in my head all this pain -  they said nothing was wrong  but 6 months later I was giving up work after all those years.  I felt disappointed with myself as I have always been a fighter.

I lived on pain killers until 2002 when I could not take any more I went back to my GP and insisted that I needed to see somebody. I had no life. The pain was taking over.

He sent a referral out to my local hospital here in Wales and 1 year 6 months later,  I had a appointment. I thought "thank God. Somebody has to help me now!"

At the end of 2003/2004 I went to see the consultant and had a MRI done again. He said he would see me in 4 months he will send for me I thought not again so I waited and the appointment came I went to see him he said ok you have a fracture straight across the coccyx well at least I knew I was not making this up all this pain then came the bomb shell he said we can not do anything about it at this time I was on high amounts of morphine I just sat there and cried he said I have to live with the pain.

I got home felt sorry for myself as you would but after a few weeks I thought no there has got to be something? Somebody some where on the internet I went research that’s what I need to do and I did weeks and weeks of it finding out everything I could who did the operation if they had done it before the successes rate I went into great detail as the operation was not one to take lightly .

After months of research I found a Dr his name was Dr Siva Raman I emailed him explaining everything the pain my life etc and guess what emailed me back within days I was so happy I was crying he told me to get a referral from the hospital I went to now that was a fight in its self I knew they would not do that had spoken to them before about it.

So being a nurse I knew some hop holes within the NHS which I used as we all would and I picked a different Dr at the hospital. I saw him and gave him Mr Siva Raman's name and asked if he would write to him so he did. I was shocked that the next thing was getting the funding off the NHS - now this was a fight! I wrote to my MP Welsh Assembly - you name it I wrote it! I even wrote to the the local paper I was going to see this Dr -  I did not care what it took -  the fight was on.  I was in a wheelchair by now and spent most of my time in bed .But nothing was going to stop me. I was on the phone tp the same people everyday, nag nag nag!  who cared?  not me!  I wanted this pain gone I was dying in front of my children and husband the morphine was getting higher and higher not killing the pain any longer …

Then to my surprise I had a letter in September 2008 saying I had a appointment with Dr Siva Raman in 2 weeks time I nearly fell of the bed.

I had done it! my fight was over. I could not believe it - 2 weeks could not quick enough for me. I smiled the whole 2 weeks. I made the trip to London on 23rd September he saw me x-rays where done and straight back to him my coccyx was sticking out of my back you could see it poking out of the skin he saw this and the way I was sitting he said straight away something has to be done I was a very sick woman I was so over whelmed I started to cry he said we will have you in  straight away and as sure of his word 9th oct 2008 I was in croft ward when I got there I was alone afraid as my husband was unwell his self I went alone on the train if I was going to do this even if it was me alone in a big city I was going to do it and I did ,I entered the ward the nursing staff where so friendly made me feel so welcome the nerves so went ones I unpacked my case they sat with me and explained the ward where every thing was if I need anything it was there little different to the welsh hospital for sure .

Once I had settled in Dr Siva Raman came to see me with his team sat with me explained everything that was going to happen the risks for the operation at this time I did not care just get me out of this pain I told them we all laughed he said ,rest today you will be down at 1pm tomorrow could not sleep all night just watching the clock tick away waiting for 1pm to come no coffee no food no pain killers now the pain was really setting in I was ready for anything .

They came for me at last all the paper work had been done I was all dropped up and being pushed down I really didn’t mind I knew that the pain would have at least 80% gone if any ?

They put me under the cracked a joke as I was going under so I got the punch line at least before I went under it was a good joke!

The next thing I was awake in my bed operation done I was being fed with morphine no pain I was on my side first thing I did was put my hand there make sure that pain in the ass had gone and sure it was gone no pain the pain had gone then I thought it must be the morphine that is killing the pain? But I will soon know when they take the drip out well a few hours later I was up on my feet walking slow but walking still no pain I slept like a baby that night next morning they removed the drip I thought here we go but 6 hours no pain 12 hours no pain I knew the operation had worked I lied on the bed and cried with happiness but I knew I still had 1 move fight the with drawl from morphine I knew it was not going to be easy I thought to myself lying there ,

Dr siva raman came to see me and asked how I was feeling I said fine little pain from operation and sore but I felt it was well with the fight he said you can go home tomorrow  I was shocked I said ok I rung my hubby he came straight up to see me stayed the night fun getting home lying in the back of the car for 4 hours but boy was I glad Dr Siva Raman give me instructions how  to wipe myself because of infections etc which I listened to with a bag on tablets .

I got home straight into my bed worn out from the trip husband asked was it worth it with a big smile on my face I said god yes ! He said that’s good the recovery is very slow I will tell you that it seems for ever  it took over 4 months to stop the sweats from the morphine and the craving  I could go on and on I will say that the nurses here in Wales did not know how to treat me when I got home so they rung croft ward to find out best you keep that in mind if you are thinking for having this done always ask questions ? put your own mind at rest that’s important in any thing you do  in life not only this ?

Well I have a 90% pain free life. Its over a year on and I am  still on a small amount of pain killers but that’s not from the coccyx  - it's that I need the nerves done in my legs. My back still aches a bit at times but he said it all takes time to heal. I have to say I did have all the injections in betweeneen treatments - x rays, ct scans, in coccyx and hips so I did try everything before I took the step to have this operation done.

Just a few weeks ago I saw him and I am back to see him about my legs but everything else doing just fine I was so happy I found him and in words I could never be able to thank him enough he has given me my life back since I met him I have referred 7 people to him 6 have been done 100% success rate so up until I write this he has done 14 operations with 100% success which is amazing .

This site is for those who have had this same operation by him or people who need to be seen by him which I hope we can help you in some way.

Thank you for looking at our site if you need any thing just email me on the email address on site.
